Head of School Stephanie Luebbers leaving Stoneleigh-Burnham at End of 22-23 School Year
October 7th, 2022
“With sincere regret, we announce Stephanie Luebbers’ resignation from Stoneleigh-Burnham, effective June 30, 2023. We wish her all the best in her new role as the Head of Bancroft School,” stated an October 6th letter to the community from Board Chair Dr. Mary Maloney ’69.
Stephanie’s tenure with Stoneleigh-Burnham began on July 1, 2018. In her time as the Head of the School, she has overseen the School’s 150th Anniversary celebration as well as several important capital projects, including the completion of new paddocks at the Equestrian Center, the renovation of Geissler Gallery, and the expansion of the Fitness Center, and Training Room.
She and her team ensured the continuity of the School during the time of remote schooling. They expertly guided the community's transition back to life on campus and regular in-person instruction. More importantly, Stephanie provided expert leadership and guidance during several critical challenges during her tenure, notably the ongoing pandemic and the civil unrest that gripped the country following the murder of George Floyd. Stephanie also played a vital role in leading the community through several complex and essential conversations, ultimately increasing the School community’s awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues.
In her letter to the Board, Stephanie reflected on her tenure, “My time at SBS has been powerfully gratifying. This spirited and talented community has brought me great joy. Two special qualities of the SBS community drew me here, and they have sustained me as I have served the School. First, SBS promotes agency, authenticity, and voice, and second, it deftly manages the delicate balance of supporting each student’s individual journey in the context of an inclusive and compassionate community.”
The Board of Trustees is in the process of creating a Head Search Committee and vetting firms to support the School’s efforts to find the next Head of School. The Board expects to make a more detailed announcement about this process in the coming weeks.
Board Chair Dr. Mary Maloney '69 said, “This search represents a profound opportunity to select a Head of School who will continue the long line of extraordinary leaders. We will select a Head dedicated to the mission of girls' education at Stoneleigh-Burnham and to leading this wonderful school community.”
