The EEV Center

With a 155-year legacy, the launch of the Empowerment, Ethical Global Citizenship, and Voice (EEV) Center at Stoneleigh-Burnham will ensure that students from across the country and around the world are empowered, ethical global citizens— secure in the knowledge that their voices will be heard.

The SBS community shares in the belief that empowerment, ethical global citizenship, and voice are critical components of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Committed to cultivating an environment where every student is valued, respected, and empowered, the community thrives on nurturing creativity, fostering a sense of belonging, and encouraging each student to find their unique voice. EEV Center Overview

The EEV Center will serve to unite key programs that deliver on SBS’s mission in an effort to drive impactful change:

  • Empowerment
    • The Wingspan Program (named for our School's mascot, Athena the Owl): A dedicated micro term taking place in May at the culmination of each academic year. Wingspan provides students with in-depth, interdisciplinary, experiential, and project-based learning opportunities across four key areas— Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), The Arts, Entrepreneurship, Local & Global Studies. Students will quite literally be able to stretch their wings by focusing on academic inquiry, creative collaboration, personal reflection, and real-world application within their chosen branch. Prior to Commencement in June, students will demonstrate their knowledge at a year-end symposium. Due to SBS’s staunch belief in educational access, the Wingspan Program is available to all students, regardless of financial resources. Learn more about the Wingspan Program.

  • Ethical Global Citizenship
    • Global Education: Global Education at SBS will center curricular and co-curricular programs that foster a global understanding grounded in social justice. With a focus on ethical global citizenship, SBS will offer a place-based Spring Break trip each academic year for students and teachers that engage the community in navigating and celebrating diversity, equity, and inclusion both stateside and abroad. Global Education at SBS will continuine to deliver as well as expand upon the International Baccalaureate® (IB) curriculum and framework.
    • School Exchanges & Partnerships: Partnering with the International Coalition of Girls' Schools (ICGS) to secure relationships with peer girls' schools in the United States as well as overseas, this focus on ethical global citizenship will provide students with the opportunity to explore a short-term study abroad experience, practice language immersion with native speakers, and acquire newfound cultural understanding.

  • Voice
    • Public Speaking & Debate: A dedicated summer session serving rising 7th — 12th Grade students coupled with our internationally acclaimed Debate & Public Speaking Society for enrolled Stoneleigh-Burnham Students.
    • The Emerson Scholars Program: This academic experience will provide selected student(s) with a unique opportunity to delve into an element of Stoneleigh-Burnham's herstory and connect it to the learning experience of today’s Stoneleigh-Burnham student. Designed to keep our herstory alive and provide an opportunity for authentic original research, Emerson Scholars will partner with dedicated faculty to design their area of study and deliver a novel product.
    • The EEV Institute for Teachers: A professional development opportunity created by and for teachers that centers empowerment, ethical global citizenship, and voice both in and out of the classroom.
