Biography

Karen currently heads the Stoneleigh-Burnham School (SBS) Debate and Public Speaking program and embraces fully the mission of educating students to speak up and become active citizens of the world.

Karen’s study at Amherst College as a double English and American Studies major and her graduate work in Yale’s Graduate School of American Studies fueled her passion for teaching. Karen taught for 11 of her 25+ years in education as a Humanities teacher in the Middle and Upper School of SBS, from 2011 through 2021.  She spent 10 summers as a counselor and coach at the SBS on-site Debate and Public Speaking Summer Camp “A Voice of her Own” and its virtual and hybrid version, “Speak Up.”  She has coached successful SBS students as qualifying competitors to World competitions, from Hong Kong to Australia, and knows how far public speaking can take students in their lives.

Karen is excited to continue helping to pass on the Stoneleigh-Burnham School legacy to a new generation of students.
