Stable Secretary

March 20th, 2023

Earlier this year, Stoneleigh-Burnham Equestrian Center was featured on The Stable Secretary Blog, a blog that aims to provide helpful tips and resources for Barn Managers and Trainers. Stable Secretary is a barn management service that helps the Stoneleigh-Burnham Equestrian Center manage our British Horse Society-approved Livery Yard, Riding School, and Facility, over 40 horses, approximately 50 SBS student riders, and approximately 70 summer camp riders.

In 2016, a need for better organization of paperwork for horses and riders inspired the Equestrian Center to seek a professional barn management tool. “We saw an advertisement for the Stable Secretary program, gave it a shot, and have been happy with the outcome,” shared Kay Ward, Assistant Director of the Equestrian Center. “Stable Secretary allows our staff easy access to information in one organized, easily accessible place. To be honest, the reminders feature is my favorite feature because I know everyone is so busy and this is helpful to effectively manage a daily schedule.” The entire equestrian team - as well as our horses, students, and campers - benefit from the organization that Stable Secretary provides.

The Stoneleigh-Burnham Equestrian Center hosts indoor and outdoor shows throughout the year as well as riding summer camps. This summer, the horses and campers of Bonnie Castle Riding Camp and Horsemanship Day Camp will benefit from Stable Secretary, ensuring all the details of stable management are taken care of so that the focus can be on summer fun. Both riding summer programs are led by SBS’s own experienced and knowledgeable riding instructors. For Bonnie Castle Riding Camp, a riding program for girls ages 8-16 at the intermediate and advanced skill levels, riders must be able to walk, trot, canter, and tack up on their own. For Horsemanship Day Camp, a riding program for girls & boys ages 9-12 at the beginner skill level, riders will have the opportunity to learn practical horsemanship skills including grooming, handling, tacking, feeding and beginner rider skills in a safe, fun environment.

Student-riders at SBS ride four times a week and have the option to hack or show on the weekends. Our British Horse Society-approved Livery Yard, Riding School, and Facility is right on-campus, not a guarantee at all equestrian boarding schools, and allows our student-riders daily access if they so choose. Our barn instructors and staff are committed to our student-riders and partner with them and their families to meet their individual riding goals. With Middle School (Grades 7 & 8) and Upper School (Grades 9 - 12 and PG) IEA teams, four disciplines (Hunt Seat, Dressage, Showjumping, and Cross Country), and non-competitive options, there is a place for you at our barn!
