Stoneleigh-Burnham Kicks off the 154th School Year

September 6th, 2022

A New School Year is Upon Us

Last week marked the beginning of another exciting year on the Stoneleigh-Burnham School campus. On Monday, the 29th of August, Stephanie Luebbers, Head of School, opened the week's activities with a presentation to all employees. She reminded the adult community of our commitment to the mission, the students, and each other. The morning presentation set an energetic and engaged tone for the year, recapping the prior year’s accomplishments, introducing 11 new employees, celebrating the previous year’s college matriculation list, and focusing on new programs, such as the inaugural class for Voice 10.

Two days of faculty and staff meetings gave way to the students' arrival, with registration running from Wednesday thru Friday. The energy of the entire campus rapidly increased as students arrived from eight different countries and across the United States.

When asked what makes the start of the year special, Stephanie responded, “I love the start of school. I can’t wait to have the student energy back on campus. Schools are not meant to be empty spaces. I am excited to meet new families and to say “Hi!" to old friends.

Capping off the first week's orientation and registration activities, the students participated in a school-wide bonding event hosted by the organization Grit n Wit. Part obstacle course, and part brain game, they claim that students “cross the finish line with strengthened relationships, more pride in their school and themselves.” The obstacle course, erected in and amongst the equestrian practice course, was a scene of excitement, teamwork, and a bit of interclass competition as teams of 4 - 5 students made their way around the course. The energy and excitement of the week was an excellent signal of great things to come in this, the 154th year of Stoneleigh-Burnham.
