For the 2022-2023 academic year, Stoneleigh-Burnham School appoints Heidi Merrill as new Director of College Counseling.

Heidi, who joined Stoneleigh-Burnham in August, comes to SBS with 18 years of experience in college admissions, making her intimately familiar with what admissions counselors at the collegiate level are looking for in high school applicants. Heidi has worked at a variety of institutions, most recently serving in the role of Associate Director of Admission at Mount Holyoke College. With extensive experience evaluating diverse applications from both domestic and international students, serving on admissions committees, interviewing students, and supporting students and families through the college admissions process, Heidi is excited to work with SBS students and their families in support of their post-SBS college goals.

Current Academic Dean and former Director of College Counseling Lauren Cunniffe shares, “Heidi Merrill has years of admissions experience at a variety of institutions ranging from large public universities to small liberal arts colleges. She has helped guide students and families through many application cycles and is a skilled communicator who brings her knowledge and compassion to the complexities of college admissions.” Lauren’s experience with college counseling at SBS was key in determining Heidi as the right fit for this important position.

With equal enthusiasm, Head of School Stephanie Luebbers confirms, “Heidi is a superb addition to the SBS team, and her relationship building with students and families has begun in earnest. She brings wisdom, experience, and a deep understanding of the college admissions landscape to SBS; these are invaluable strengths in helping students find and matriculate at a best fit institution after graduation.”

Heidi, who holds a B.A. in History from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and an M.S. in Nonprofit Management from Lasell University, shares “I am excited to work closely with the students and help them navigate what I know can be a complex and arduous process.
