The SBS Debate and Public Speaking Society competed at a combined speech and debate tournament at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols on Sunday, Dec. 2.
The categories included two rounds of parliamentary extemporaneous, one round of impromptu speaking, and one round of interpretive reading.
The event included more than 120 competitors from 16 schools.
SBS sent eight competitors, a four-person novice team of Sissi Hao ’21, Ira Hysi ’20, Bee Brynda ’20, and Sofia Sherman ’20, and a four-person advanced team of Jax Morgan ’19, Jackie Kennick ’19, Joy Lundberg ’20, and Katie Kowalyshyn ’20.
In the advanced category, Morgan placed second as individual speaker overall. She and Kennick went undefeated in their two rounds of parliamentary extemporaneous debate, and Morgan took first in interpretive reading in her room. Lundberg placed first in impromptu speaking in her room. Kowalyshyn earned first in interpretive reading in her room. Hysi took first in both interpretive reading and impromptu speaking in her rooms.
