Debate & Public Speaking Camp teaches girls to articulate ideas with confidence and clarity, while improving their oratorical, research, and critical thinking skills. Our unique program blends instruction, workshops, coaching and competition with the fun of summer camp.
The program has no prerequisite, and is appropriate for experienced and novice speakers alike. Every year we work with new speakers simply looking to advance their speaking ability and confidence, as well as seasoned speakers preparing for another successful year of competition.
Beginners will benefit most from the full 2-week program, which will introduce girls to the full gamut of public speaking and debate disciplines. Experienced speakers might prefer joining us for one week, according to their interest in debate and argument versus public speaking.
Week One emphasizes Argument and Debate:
- Parliamentary Extemporaneous Debate
- Lincoln-Douglas Debate
- Cross-Examination Debate
- Persuasive Speech
- Impromptu Speaking
Week Two focuses on Speech and Performance:
- A full-day theater workshop, incorporating coaching on clear speech, posture, projection, and stage presence
- Interpretive Reading
- After Dinner Speaking
- Impromptu Speaking
Both weeks include:
- Daily recreation time for swimming, exercising, and enjoying our campus
- Fun evening activities
- Students will keep their work digitally for use at home or in building portfolios
- Individual attention and coaching from our faculty
