Stoneleigh-Burnham School students will participate in the Ragnar Trail New England race at the Northfield Mountain Recreation and Environmental Center in Northfield, Mass., on Friday, August 26 and Saturday, August 27, 2016. The race is a relay held over two days and one night. Teams camp near a runners’ village where runners will start each of their loops.
Teachers Andrea Tehan-Carnes and Tim McCall, who have both done the race previously, organized the SBS team of seven student runners and helped them train over the summer. SBS also has two student volunteers participating to help with the race.
“We want our girls to be lifelong athletes, and introducing them to this kind of sport now will let them know they have cool stuff to look forward to as adults,” Tehan-Carnes said. “We think this will be a great chance for the girls to get to know each other and support each other on a much deeper level than anything they’ve ever experienced. It will be a great way for the girls to discover their own athleticism and sisterhood.”
