The Stoneleigh-Burnham Theatre department proudly presents the rock musical, “RENT (the school edition)” on Friday, February 21st at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, February 22nd at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, February 23rd at 2:00 p.m.

With music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson, RENT is based on Giacomo Puccini’s opera “La bohème.” It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York City’s Lower East Side in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.

The 1996 Broadway musical won widespread acclaim and several important prizes: the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, six Drama Desk Awards, three Obie Awards, four Tony Awards including Best Musical, and the Pulitzer Prize.

Staging director Kim Mancuso says, “The production is really a contemporary opera. Spear-headed by powerhouse music director, Meg Reilly, who has worked tirelessly with the students over winter term, the Stoneleigh-Burnham students are tremendously excited to bring this very immediate story to the stage.”

A note to parents planning to attend: The videotaping or other video or audio recording of this production is strictly prohibited by the licensing body, MTI.

RENT-SCHOOL EDITION is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.
