Stoneleigh-Burnham School’s 2016 Fall Art Exhibition will feature the artwork of Colrain, Mass., artist Robin Lynn Brooks, who works in a variety of media, from painting and pastel to concrete and earth, to create large two-dimensional works in addition to sculptures and installations.
The exhibition, titled “An Artist’s Life: Healing Through Art,” will open September 23 in Geissler Gallery. Brooks will give a gallery talk at 3 p.m. that day to discuss her work. A reception will be held that evening from 6-7:30 p.m. Both the gallery talk and reception are free and open to the public. The exhibition runs until October 28.
“An Artist’s Life” is a retrospective of the artist’s work that addresses healing through her art. According to Brooks, “This show speaks to the need for all of us to listen and respond to who we are as we move through life, to be certain to honor the deep stirrings of the soul. Whether scientist or mathematician, writer or artist — whatever we do — it is important to pay attention to our inner voice that tells us what we need, where we are going, and who we are.”
Brooks lives in Colrain, Mass. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a BA in Studio Art in 1974. She earned her MFA in Sculpture from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston in 1993. Her work has shown nationally. In addition to creating visual art, Brooks is a poet and playwright. She is also a book and web designer.
