Alyssa is a visual arts educator with a focus on integrative learning. She believes in the arts, creativity and joy as elemental in creating a better world for all, and that all children should have access to high quality arts education. Her teaching is informed by her own artistic practice in ceramics and photography, and by her background in environmentally sustainable practices, social justice, social emotional learning, activism and deep observation. She received her BA from Oberlin College in 2005 and has taught preschool through adult art classes since 2006 in public and private schools, artist residencies, community art centers, and supplemental educational programs. She was co-director of Wingate Studio, a world-renowned etching studio and artist residency program, from 2013-2021; an artist-in-residence and mentor for high school art students at Cow House Studios in Enniscorthy, Ireland in 2014; and has been a teaching artist for ASAP!, an innovative arts education non-profit, for over 14 years.
