Sharvari Bhatt ’16 has qualified to compete on April 23 in the state finals of a public speaking competition for students run by the Lions Club of Massachusetts. This year’s topic is, “In what ways has social media changed society?”
The competition is open to students in grades 9-12, and Sharvari has been sponsored by the local chapter of the Lions Club in Greenfield. The competition started in the fall at the local club and school level and proceeded through several levels of competition over the school year, ending with the statewide competition. Sharvari is one of five statewide district winners who will vie for the title of Best in the State at the annual Lions Club State Convention on April 23.
There are prizes and/or awards for each contestant at every level of competition. The prizes at the State Competition are $1,500 to the winner and $500 to each runner up. Prizes at other levels of competition are at the discretion of the clubs or district.
Good luck, Sharvari!
