Two Stoneleigh-Burnham School equestrian athletes will head to Florida in April for the IEA National Finals after qualifying at the Zone 1 Finals held at Mount Holyoke College this past weekend, March 28-29.
Francesca Ermeeva ’15 and Mily Ayala Rosa ’18 will go to the National Finals to compete as individuals in Wellington, Florida April 24-26. In addition, Eremeeva won the Sportsmanship Award at the Mount Holyoke show this past weekend.
Eremeeva won first place in open fences in the individual class in the Zone 1 Finals on Saturday. Ayala Rosa placed second in beginner walk-trot-canter in the individual class. Eremeeva also won the varsity open championship class, which is a class made up of the top eight open riders at the horse show.
In the team competition on Sunday, the SBS IEA team finished sixth overall, which was not enough to qualify the team to move on to finals. However, in the team competition, Eremeeva placed third in open fences and open flats, and Colby Maynard, a community rider on the IEA team, placed fifth in novice flats.
SBS Director of Riding Mina Williams also noted that three SBS horses — Chip, Einstein, and Griffen — were chosen to go to the Zone 1 Finals.
Congratulations to our IEA riders!
