SBS is pleased to announce two online summer camps this August: Introduction to Debate & Public Speaking and Dance Intensive.
The week-long Introduction to Debate & Public Speaking occurs August 3-7 and is open to girls in grades 7-9. Designed for campers who have little or no experience speaking in front of a group, the course is a combination of learning skills as well as practicing three types of public speaking categories that students might encounter is a speaking competition: Interpretive Reading, Impromptu Speech, and Parliamentary Extemporaneous debate.
For the first time in its 151-year history, SBS will also offer a week-long co-ed Dance Intensive camp from August 17-21. The camp will focus on technique classes in contemporary, ballet, and jazz forms, and is open to students between the ages of 13-18. According to SBS Dance instructor Cat Wagner, “All dance forms, like bodies, are equal and valid and it made sense for us to open this course to everyone. We plan to share movement in community-oriented, body-positive, and culturally-relevant ways, as well as question and dismantle systemically racist dance practices.”
Due to ongoing concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic, Stoneleigh-Burnham School cancelled all previously-scheduled on-campus summer programs for 2020, including Bonnie Castle Riding Camp, Animation Intensive, and Dance Intensive.
