Octet gave a beautiful and moving performance for the entire SBS community at the last Housemeeting of the 2014-2015 school year, held on May 19. Octet performed “May I Suggest” and dedicated their performance to graduating seniors.
Led by Music Teacher Meg Reilly, Octet is a performance ensemble and class in which students learn correct vocal, sight singing, and performance techniques as they work with all types and styles of choral literature. An audition is required to become a member of Octet, and students should have some background in singing, either formal or informal.
At Stoneleigh-Burnham, music, visual arts, theater, and dance are fully integrated into our curriculum, and that means our girls are encouraged to express themselves creatively every day. At our school you will hear girls singing – in the dorms, between classes, and on stage. You will see girls playing bass and drums in rock band. You will see dancers en pointe. You will walk by stunning artwork on display throughout our hallways.
The Stoneleigh-Burnham instrumental and vocal music program welcomes each student at her level and helps her continue to grow as a musician. From beginner through advanced, through a wide variety of musical styles, students are encouraged to explore and develop their love of music. SBS has been recognized as a pioneer in girls’ music education for its award-winning vocal, jazz and classical groups and for instituting a course in rock band.
