The Stoneleigh-Burnham School community warmly welcomes the following new members to our faculty and staff:
Lynn Fantelli: chemistry teacher, coach
Lynn has a BS in Science Communications from UMASS, an MEd in Curriculum Design and Instruction from Northeastern University, and an MS in Biology and Environmental Science from the University of Nebraska. Lynn brings with her more than 20 years of experience teaching science. In addition to teaching chemistry, Lynn will also work in our co-curricular program. Lynn is passionate about Science Olympiad, kayaking, and her volunteer work with the Massachusetts Audubon Society.
Diana Fiori: Spanish teacher, coach, houseparent
Diana has a BA in Spanish, an MA in Hispanic Literature, and an MA in Education, all from the University of Rhode Island, and has completed four years of PhD coursework in Hispanic Linguistics at UMass. Diana has taught Spanish at several colleges in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and at Moses Brown School in Providence. Diana is a native speaker of both English and Spanish; she is originally from Peru.
Shelley Futter: Registrar and Assistant to the Deans
Shelley spent 12 years in the dean of students’ office at Deerfield Academy. Since leaving DA, she has been working as a buyer’s assistant for a wholesale grocery business in Hatfield, but she has missed working with and around students. Shelley lives in Hatfield with her husband and her two children, who are both currently in college.
Alaine Jolicoeur: French intern, coach, advisor to Students of Color, houseparent
Alaine has a BA in philosophy with minors in French and in Sexuality, Women’s, and Gender Studies from Rollins College. Alaine grew up in Haiti and is a native speaker of French and Haitian Creole. She taught English to students in grades 6-12 for a year in France, studied abroad in Switzerland, and has worked in the International Programs and Admissions offices at Rollins College.
Manze (Nina) Li: Chinese teacher, coach, houseparent
Nina is from China and has a BA in English from Beijing Jiaotong University in Beijing, China, and dual master’s degrees from New York University in Teaching a Foreign Language and TESOL. While she was a student in China, Nina studied abroad for a year at Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Mass., and she has taught Chinese and English at several schools in New York.
Kristen Peterson: Dean of Students, coach, AOD
Kristen has a rich background in private boarding schools where she has worked in student life, residential life, athletics, admissions, and development. At Suffield, Kristen worked in the highly-respected leadership development program and initiated two girls’ support programs; she was also their first “Green Dean,” supporting environment stewardship initiatives on campus. Similarly, she worked at Miss Porter’s in curriculum development for the Sarah Porter Leadership Institute, founded the Captain’s Club for leadership development of student athletes, and taught in the Health, Wellness, and Leadership program. Kristen has coached field hockey and/or lacrosse at the varsity and junior varsity levels at each stage of her career. All along, she has worked and lived in dorms and served as a faculty advisor to students. Kristen is a graduate of The Gunnery, has a BA from Trinity College (in anthropology), and is a 2015 candidate at Dartmouth for a master’s degree in Liberal Studies. She also has two certificates from the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). Most recently, Kristen has served as Director of Alumni Relations at Mercersberg.
Abigail (Abby) Reed: English teacher, coach, houseparent
Abby holds a BA in English and American Literature from Middlebury College and a M.Phil in Medieval and Renaissance Literature from the University of Cambridge. She previously taught multiple levels of English, including first year IB English Language and Literature while leading the English Department at Stamford American International School in Singapore. She has also taught English at The Greenwich Country Day School in Connecticut. Abby has spent many summers as a swim instructor/coach and Head of Junior Camp at the all-boys’ camp in New Hampshire that was founded by her great-grandfather.
Hillary Hoffman: Director of Marketing and Communications
Hillary has more than 20 years of marketing and communications experience. Before joining SBS in September 2015, she was Associate Director of Marketing and New Business Development at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she promoted and drove enrollment for online courses, graduate programs, and degree completion programs. She has also held marketing positions at Pearson and at Merriam-Webster, Inc. Hillary is a graduate of New York University and attended the University of Connecticut School of Law. She is a 2014 alumna of the Emerge Massachusetts program, a two-time elected member of the Greenfield Town Council, and volunteers on additional town boards and with local non-profits. She lives in Greenfield with her husband, Neil Serven, and their three cats. She enjoys cooking, reading, and gardening (but not weeding).
We are also pleased to share that Willy Therrien, Director of Summer and Community Programs, will also serve as the Assistant Dean for Community Building, which will include oversight of clubs and special presentations at Housemeeting. Willy will also facilitate the 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C. as well as serve as a substitute AOD when needed.
