Chinese II students start to master longer and more complicated passages and authentic materials. Formal, informal and slang languages (written and oral forms) will be introduced, and be encouraged to use. Students are expected to use Chinese with the teacher within and beyond the class. Students are also required to practice with native Chinese speakers out of class. The class is conducted in a communicative approach and uses task-based activities. Cultural activities, such as Chinese nights or Chinese tables, are offered throughout the year. The ultimate goal is to help students use Chinese in real-life situations, to cultivate lifelong Chinese language learning, and to appreciate their own culture and Chinese culture.
