Chinese I is for students who have little or no prior experience in learning Chinese language and culture. Students will develop their four skills through TPRS activities, comprehensible input, project-based tasks regarding topics: Greeting, Family, School, Leisure and Weather. Students start to develop their fluency through rhymes and raps. The course will introduce 1) Pinyin and tone marks; 2) Radicals and stroke orders for students to comprehend characters and handle the pronunciation and intonations; 3) Fundamental knowledge of Chinese geography, history and culture. Simplified characters and pinyin are the main form in the text. Four language skills are taught through thematic units, task-based activities and interactive technology. Out-of-class activities are offered throughout the year.
