In their first contest of the year, the Stoneleigh-Burnham IEA (Interscholastic Equestrian Association) team had a very strong showing and earned third place out of nine teams at the Mount Holyoke College Zone 1 Region 12 Upper School Show, co-hosted with Muddy Brook Farm.
Francesca Eremeeva ’15 placed 1st in her section of Open Fences. Grace Powers ’15 placed 1st in her section of Open Flat. Olivia Fernandez ’15 placed 1st in her section of Intermediate Flat. Kaleigh Intrator ’15 placed 2nd in both Intermediate Flat and Over Fences. Maren Vogel ’17 was placed 1st in Novice Fences. Valeria Serrano ’18 placed 1st in the JV Beginner Flat Class and Mily Ayala ’18 placed 2nd in the same class.
The unique aspect of IEA competitions, both at the local and national level, is that none of the riders will supply their own horses or tack. Instead, the host team arranges for the horses and equipment. Since the horse is new to the rider, the scores are based upon horsemanship and equitation. Riders are randomly assigned a horse for each class, one jumping and one flat, and are judged on their equitation against riders at their level.
