Idah Mwongeli ’22 traveled to Los Angeles last week on behalf of Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO) to join her classmates from Kenya’s Kibera School for Girls (KSG) to accept the Hilton Humanitarian Prize from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation.

SHOFCO is a grassroots movement that catalyzes large-scale transformation in urban slums by providing critical services for all, community advocacy platforms, and education and leadership development for women and girls.

The award ceremony was held on Friday, Oct. 19 and was live-streamed. As part of the ceremony, Idah and her fellow SHOFCO and KSG classmates, who are also at boarding schools throughout the Northeast, performed Kuliko Jana (More Than Yesterday) by Sauti Sol.

Congratulations, Idah and SHOFCO! Stoneleigh-Burnham is proud to have you as a part of our community.
