A member of the Stoneleigh-Burnham School Equestrian Program took Reserve Champion (2nd Place) in the Grand National Hunter Seat on the Equitation class at the Grand National & World Championship Morgan Horse Show in Oklahoma City last week. She was also 6th Place in the Grand National Hunter Pleasure 16 Class, a significant achievement.

Grace Powers ’15 and her horse, Dexter Dawson, competed at the prestigious show Oct. 11-18. Grace, a resident of Northfield, MA, rode very well and qualified for and competed in three additional classes.

To qualify to compete in the Oklahoma City show, Grace competed at three intense shows over the summer, the Greater Boston Charity Horse Show, Vermont Morgan, and Massachusetts Morgan. Riders must place in the top two in their class to qualify.

This was the second time Grace has attended the Grand National and World Championship Morgan Horse Show. She qualified and competed last year

Grace, who has been riding since she was 7, said, “I am very proud of myself and of Dexter. It was a great experience.”

Owners and exhibitors of more than 1,000 horses competed from 45 states and four countries in the show. More than 5,000 Morgan enthusiasts attend the show at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds.
