On Friday, May 4, David Orwig, a Forest Ecology researcher from the Harvard Forest visited the Science 7 class. Orwig’s research has focused on the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid, an invasive pest that threatens Eastern Hemlock trees. He worked with the Science 7 students to assess the presence of the invasive species on a selection of hemlock trees in our adjacent forest, and even cored a few trees to determine age. This work is part of an ongoing collaboration between SBS and the Harvard Forest Schoolyard Ecology Program.
