EL Middle School Humanities

EL Humanities is designed to meet the linguistic and academic needs of middle school students at an intermediate level of English. The course integrates English/Language Arts and Social Studies to prepare students for mainstream Middle School and Upper School work. In terms of content, approximately one-half the units are focused on academic English development, including level appropriate reading and writing skills, vocabulary-building strategies, and focused grammar activities. The other half of the units follow EL World History, with time spent on historical and cultural research and formal academic writing. The focus is on the history and culture of ancient civilizations. The course also places emphasis on building increased communicative competency, particularly fluency, in a variety of classroom, school and community contexts. This course prepares students for MS Humanities, Intermediate EL, and Upper School History courses.
