EL Middle School Humanities

EL Humanities is designed to meet the linguistic and academic needs of middle school students at an intermediate-advanced level of English. The course integrates English/Language Arts and Social Studies to prepare students for grade-level Middle School and Upper School work. In terms of content, approximately one-half the units are focused on academic English development, including level-appropriate reading and writing skills, vocabulary building strategies, and focused grammar activities. The other half of the units include historical and cultural research and formal academic writing. The themes and content depend largely on student interest and collaboration with the concurrent Humanities 8 section. The course also places emphasis on building increased communicative competency and fluency in a variety of classroom, school and community contexts. This course prepares students for MS Humanities, Advanced EL, and Upper School History courses.
