The Bridge Fund

Give today to build a bridge to a sustainable future. Gifts to the Fitness Center Addition will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Courtney Babcock Borntraeger ’70 and her family foundation.

These Phase I and II projects have been completed: Student Lounge, Student Café, Tarbell Terrace, Newton Hub, tennis court renovations, and
dormitory upgrades.

Phase II Projects in Planning: Fitness Center Addition and updates to the Geissler Gallery.

More than 200 alumnae, parents, and friends contributed to the Bridge Fund and the $1.2 million goal was exceeded as of June 30, 2016.

Through the Bridge Fund initiative, Stoneleigh-Burnham funded small but significant capital improvements. These projects were above and beyond what was possible through Annual Fund support.

Thank you, donors!

Projects completed through the Bridge Fund:

Phase I

sbs-bridge-fund-page_oct2016-2303The Student Lounge (former Red Room) has been completely renovated, and a spacious hallway with floor-to-ceiling windows brings the outdoors inside, flooding the space with natural light. The attractive, comfortable new furnishings include a flat-screen TV. The original fireplace has been upgraded with a new mantel that holds portraits of Mr. and Mrs. Emerson.

Oct30Construction6The Tarbell Family Foundation Terrace is complete with a pergola, outdoor dining area, and colorful rocking chairs. It was constructed adjacent to the new hallway. Students and family now enjoy the vista looking eastward. Thanks to the generosity of Dorothy “Darcy” McCormick Tarbell and her husband Hank, The Tarbell Family Foundation funded this beautiful space.

The Student Cafe is dedicated to the Faculty and Staff of Stoneleigh-Burnham. With a challenge from Jennifer and Dmitry Eremeev P ’15, the parents and grandparents of current students generously made the Student Cafe a reality. The old “TV Room” is now equipped with a kitchen, bean bag chairs, worktables, and a game area.

sbs-bridge-fund-page_oct2016-1895The Newton Hub was given by Charlotte Prescott Newton ’71 in honor of her parents. It is the central area just above the administrators’ corridor and just below the Dining Hall Common Dormitory. Students pass through the hallway on their way to the Dining Hall, often stopping to read the giant electronic message board highlighting birthdays, upcoming events, school awards, and more.

New and resurfaced Tennis Courts were established through the generosity of Charles Wattles, whose mother Helen Fischer Wattles ’50 loved playing tennis at Stoneleigh as a student. Mr. Wattles issued a challenge to the school — meeting that challenge, Trustee Charlotte Prescott Newton ’71 and a number of additional donors made it possible for SBS to add a sixth court and resurface the existing five courts. The School can now host post-season tournaments and offer a wonderful experience to a growing number of girls interested in the sport.

Phase II
