Five seniors attended the 4th Annual Hamden Hall Lincoln-Douglas Debate Tournament on Sunday, April 6th with their coach, Dr. Paul Bassett. As is required of Lincoln-Douglas style, students debated both sides of the resolution, “The US Federal Government should substantially reform elementary and/or secondary education in the United States.”
Jane Bell and Jillian Seigel both finished the novice division undefeated. Jane earned 2nd place overall and Jillian earned 1st place overall.
Caroline Lord won two out of her three rounds and finished 4th in the advanced division.
Karen Mardini was undefeated in the advanced division and competed in the championship round in front of the entire tournament to win 1st Place Overall.
The Debate & Public Speaking Society will next compete at the Deerfield Academy Parliamentary Extemporaneous Tournament on Sunday, May 4th.
