Affording a Stoneleigh-Burnham Education
SBS is committed to making its education affordable to families from a wide economic range. Enrolling a talented and diverse student body – bright students with a variety of experiences and backgrounds – is central to our mission. Where possible, qualified families may defray a portion of the cost of an SBS education through our allocated funds.

2019 – 2020 Tuition
|BOARDING STUDENTS||$ 61,750.00|
|DAY STUDENTS||$ 36,150.00|
Stoneleigh-Burnham School (SBS) is committed to enrolling a diverse student body comprised of students who are appropriate for our mission and our program. In order to enroll, families are expected to be responsible for full tuition each year. We realize that this is a considerable investment. We also are aware that not all families are able to afford the total cost of this exceptional education.
Financial Aid awards are determined by the financial need of the family, taking into consideration a family’s income and expenses, assets and debts, number of family members, cost of living index, etc. In addition to need-based financial aid, Stoneleigh-Burnham School offers scholarships.
When granting financial aid awards, SBS is, in essence, investing in a partnership with each of the most qualified students requesting financial aid. It is expected that these students uphold their commitment to the partnership by exhibiting their greatest efforts in academics, athletics, arts, leadership, community service opportunities, and all other aspects of school life.
SBS has an annual financial aid budget of approximately $2.5 million, and provides need-based financial aid awards to approximately 40% of our students. The requests and need for financial aid far exceed our budget. Therefore, we are not able to offer all accepted students a financial aid award. Some students will be put on a financial aid waitlist, with no promise of receiving financial aid, even if they qualify for such aid.
Financial Aid Procedure
The Admissions Committee reviews application folders and determines which students receive letters of acceptance, regardless of the financial need of the family. Those accepted students whose families have completed and submitted the required financial aid paperwork in a timely manner will then be reviewed by the Financial Aid Committee. Both parents are required to submit all necessary financial documentation, regardless of marital status.
Applying for Financial Aid Online
Applications for financial aid can be made online starting October 2. To apply for financial aid online, visit the School and Student Services’ website. Click on “Apply”. The Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) should be completed by both custodial and non-custodial parents/guardians by February 1. Families may estimate income and expenses if exact numbers are not known. The Financial Aid office will make corrections by referring to the IRS form 1040.
SSS resources make it easy to communicate to obtain the financial aid information you need. The Parents’ Financial Statement Workbook is a comprehensive guide to completing the PFS from start to finish featuring line-by-line instructions. The How to Apply for Financial Aid flyer and Family Guide to Financial Aid booklet will be available soon on the SSS website or the portal’s Resources tab. Spanish versions of the PFS Workbook and Family Guide are coming soon!
You can also download free informational webinars that provide valuable tips for completing the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS).
Stoneleigh-Burnham School offers four scholarships annually. Three of them require no formal application; the fourth requires an essay (see C. Robert Wray Scholarship below). All four scholarships honor exceptional applicants who will enhance the community of Stoneleigh-Burnham and, ultimately, the broader world. Scholarships do not preclude other financial assistance and are available to both domestic and international students.
The Dorrance Scholarship in Memory of Bonnie Benn Jesser SPH’63
The family of Jacquelynn Dorrance SPH’64 has endowed this scholarship in memory of Bonnie Benn Jesser SPH’63, whose life ended tragically soon after her graduation from Stoneleigh-Prospect Hill School. The Dorrance Scholarship is awarded to a girl who exhibits interest in and enthusiasm for extra-curricular activities. Like Bonnie Benn, she should also have contagious enthusiasm, a strong sense of sportsmanship, and an interest in service to others. This scholarship is granted each year to an incoming student.
The Mr. and Mrs. “E” Alumnae Scholarship
The Mr. and Mrs. “E” Scholarship is named for Mr. and Mrs. Edward E. Emerson who led Stoneleigh-Prospect Hill and then Stoneleigh-Burnham from 1950-1970. It is awarded annually to a candidate who has demonstrated above-average academic ability and well-rounded interests and talents in their school community. A strong sense of community responsibility and care for family and friends, traits instilled by the Emersons, are also considered. Preference for this award will be given to a relative of an alumna.
The Iampietro Scholarship
The Iampietro Scholarship was created by alumnae of the 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s. The scholarship honors Tom and Candy Iampietro, who taught History and English, respectively, at SBS from 1983-2003. Many alumnae, parents, and friends contributed. The scholarship was established to reward a student who demonstrates passion for the Humanities, mirroring what Tom and Candy displayed in their teaching.
The C. Robert Wray Scholarship
The Wray Scholarship is awarded annually to a girl who embodies the characteristics that Mr. Wray endeavored to instill in his students over his 18-year tenure as Headmaster of the School. The recipient must show character, integrity, and a genuine interest in attending Stoneleigh-Burnham School. Equally important is her demonstrated potential for leadership and contribution to the school community as well as proven academic success.
By February 1 of the current school year, the applicant must submit an essay of at least 1,000 words in an editable format (Microsoft Word or Google Doc) expressing what leadership means to her and why she is particularly determined to attend Stoneleigh-Burnham. A panel of alumnae and local leaders helps determine each year’s awardee.

These financing options can help to supplement any need-based financial aid you may already be receiving from Stoneleigh-Burnham School, or they can also be utilized by families who are ineligible for financial aid.
