Stoneleigh-Burnham was host to the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) Region Three Finals on Saturday, February 27 & 28. The Equestrian Center saw 175 riders and as many spectators from all over Western Massachusetts and Connecticut. In addition to the incredible effort put in by the SBS IEA Team, students and volunteers spent countless hours at the barn preparing for and running the show. Their efforts paid off as SBS placed 4th out of 10 teams and beat Mount Holyoke College who had been leading the point standings since September. Zone One's Region Three is known for its high caliber riders and stiff competition, making SBS' fourth place win all the more exceptional.
The SBS IEA team was represented at the event by Kelly Siok '11, Callan Franchi '11, Rachel Gledhill '13 and Paige Koning '13. All points and placings earned by the team members contributed to the team's 4th place overall win. The team's win has qualified them for IEA Zone One Finals to be held at Mount Holyoke College March 27 & 28.
- Siok placed 3rd in Open Over Fences
- Franchi placed 3rd in Intermediate over Fences and 5th on the Flat
- Gledhill placed 3rd in Novice Flat
- Koning placed 6th in Beginner Flat
Additionally, both Siok and Koning qualified individually for Zone One Finals, meaning they will compete against the top 12 riders in each of their respective classes. SBS will compete against 11 other of the best teams in New England at the 2010 Zone Finals which will be held at Mount Holyoke College March 27 & 28.
